Overview of Funding

Helical Fusion, a startup driving the practical application of fusion energy, has announced the completion of a 3.23 billion yen (approx. $21 million USD) funding round for the second close of its Series B. This brings the company's total funding to date, including subsidies and loans, to 13.05 billion yen. New participants in this round include Fuji Electric, Fujikura, Tokyo Gas, KKT LLC, Urata Co., and the Kepple Group, alongside existing capital partners Ando Corporation and E-Crowd NEXT.

About Helical Fusion

Founded in 2021, the company is built upon research achievements from the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS), part of the National Institutes of Natural Sciences. As a deep tech company aiming to realize a commercial fusion power plant, it adopts the unique "helical system" that Japan has accumulated over approximately 70 years. Helical Fusion's technology stands out for its ability to readily meet the "three key requirements of a commercial fusion reactor": steady-state operation, net electricity generation, and maintainability.

Purpose of Funding and Future Outlook

Proceeds from the financing will be dedicated to advancing the "Helix Program," the company's core development roadmap. Specifically, Helical Fusion aims to achieve integrated demonstration through its final verification device, "Helix HARUKA," and accomplish the world's first "practical power generation" using its first commercial power plant, "Helix KANATA," within the 2030s. Currently, manufacturing and construction of the "Helix HARUKA" are steadily progressing in a dedicated space on the premises of the National Institute for Fusion Science in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture.
